Shreyas Iyer Named ICC Player of the Month for March After Champions Trophy Success
India’s middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has been named the ICC’s Player of the Month for March, beating New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra and Jacob Duffy to the award. After being left out of the BCCI central contracts in 2024, Iyer made a strong comeback. He worked hard in domestic cricket, proved himself again, and returned to the Indian team with consistent performances. His efforts paid off as he ended up as India’s top run-scorer in the Champions Trophy and played a key role in guiding the team to the title. It’s been a true redemption story for Iyer.
Shreyas Iyer scored 243 runs for India in the Champions Trophy, doing a great job at the number 4 spot. Even though he helped KKR win another IPL title, he was left out of the BCCI Central Contracts and wasn’t picked for the T20 World Cup squad in 2024. But he made a strong comeback to the Indian team and quickly showed everyone why he’s the best choice for the number 4 position in one-day cricket.
“I’m truly honored to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March. This recognition is incredibly special, especially in a month where we lifted the ICC Champions Trophy — a moment I will cherish forever,” Iyer said.
"Being able to contribute to India's success on such a big stage is something every cricketer dreams of. I'm grateful to my teammates, coaches, and support staff for their unwavering support and belief."
He was the second Indian cricketer to win the Men's Player of the Month award this year, after Shubman Gill, who won it in February.
Shreyas Iyer's Strong Comeback in CT 2025
In March 2025, Iyer scored 172 runs across three matches in March, averaging 57.33, with a modest strike rate of 77.47.
In a Group A fixture of the tournament, Iyer scored a crucial 79 off 98 balls - an innings laced with four fours and two sixes - helping India post a competitive total of 250 on a tricky pitch against New Zealand. He then contributed 45 off 62 balls during India's successful semi-final chase against Australia, before capping off his tournament with a composed 48 off 62 in the final, once again against New Zealand, to seal victory in the summit clash.
Shreyas is currently leading Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. His prolific form from the domestic season and CT 2025 has spilt into the IPL as well. He has three 50+ scores from five matches for PBKS so far in the ongoing season.
