India's U19 Women's Cricket Team Makes History as the First to Defend a World Title

India's U19 Women's Cricket Team Makes History as the First to Defend a World TitleOn Sunday, February 2, under Niki Prasad's captaincy, India won the 2025 ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup, defeating South Africa in the final. The Indian team needed just 83 runs to win, and India chased it simply in 11.2 overs by losing one wicket. G. Trisha scored 44 runs in the final and Trisha even broke a record for the most runs in the tournament. Trisha took three wickets for 15 runs in four overs. India won by 9 wickets.

At the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, the Indian U19 women's cricket team, led by Niki Prasad, beat South Africa. India defend their title for the first time. The men's under-19 from India have won five times, but never won two times back-to-back titles. The senior women's team in India has not won an ICC Trophy yet. But the senior men's team had to wait for 28 years for the second ODI World Cup title after winning the first and 17 years for the second T20 World Cup title.

At the Bayuemas Oval, the team from South Africa chose to bowl first. But South Africa did not play well. Trisha took three wickets for 15 runs. Vaishnavi Sharma, Aayushi Shukla, and Parunika Sisodia took two wickets each. Shabnam Shakilis also took one wicket.

Kayla Reyneke is the captain of South Africa, and Mieke Van Voorst scored 23 runs in 18 balls. Another player, Fay Cowling scored 15 runs in 20 balls. Also, Karabo Meso scored 10 runs in 26 balls.
