India Announces Squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma to Lead, Shami Makes a Comeback
The BCCI revealed the squad for the Champions Trophy after the meeting. In the press conference, Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma announced the 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. All the Indian team matches were held in Dubai.
The champions are back after 8 years. This edition of the Champions Trophy will be in the hybrid model. Only India matches will be played in Dubai and the rest of the matches will be played in Pakistan. The first of the tournament will be kick-off between two strong teams Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi.
Rohit Sharma to Lead India
The Indian team will play their first match against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. Then India plays against Pakistan and New Zealand. Rohit Sharma will lead the team and Gill was picked as a vice-captain for the team. Some notable names Mohammad Siraj, Sanju Samson, Nitish Reddy, and Karun Nair were missing from the squad. These players played well in their recent matches but they didn't make a place in the squad.
The last edition of the Champions Trophy was played in England. India and Pakistan were the finalists of the last edition. Pakistan beat India at the Oval to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
