ICC Chairman Jay Shah Holds Talks with Olympic CEO in Brisbane
Newly elected ICC Chairman Jay Shah met Cindy Hook, the chief executive officer of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee (OCOG), on Thursday, December 12. Shah took charge of the ICC Chairmanship on December 1, as he had an unopposed election.
Before becoming the ICC Chairman, Shah was the BCCI Honorary Secretary since October 2019, during which he played a key role in promoting domestic and women's cricket in India. Following his first meeting as the ICC Chairman last week, Shah visited Brisbane for the third Test between India and Australia. During his visit, he met Cindy Hook to discuss opportunities for collaboration and shared highlights of their meeting on his social media platforms.
“Very exciting time ahead for Cricket’s involvement in the Olympics movement - a meeting with the @Brisbane_2032 organizing committee in Brisbane, Australia today,” wrote Shah on his X account.
The Olympics in 2028 in Los Angeles is scheduled to host cricket once again sport is making a return after 128 years. Cricket last made an appearance at the 1900 Paris Olympics. After his appointment as ICC Chairman, Jay Shah sounded extremely keen about cricket's inclusion in the Olympics and its potential for global growth.
“This is an exciting time for the sport as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide. Cricket holds immense potential globally, and I look forward to working closely with the ICC team and Member countries to seize these opportunities and take the sport to new heights,” said Shah in a statement.
Meanwhile, the cricketing fraternity had expected the final schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be released after Shah took over. However, with a little more than two months before the tournament, uncertainty remains over the timeline of the event.
