Harmanpreet Kaur’s Brilliant Knock Seals Second-Highest WPL Chase, MI Women Dominate Gujarat Giants Again
A magnificent batting performance from Amanjot and Harmanpreet has taken the Mumbai Indians to their 2nd win of the season as they take down the Gujarat Giants by 7 wickets at the DY Patil Stadium. Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to field first. Wonderful batting displays from Georgia Wareham (43* off 33), Bharti Fulmali (36* off 15) and Kanika Ahuja (35 off 18) helped Gujarat Giants deposit a big total of 192/5 on the board.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s 71 and Amanjot Kaur’s rapid 40 headline MI’s dominant chase of 192*
Chasing the big score, MI lost G Kamalini (13 off 12) early in the chase to Renuka Singh Thakur thanks to a smart stumping from Beth Mooney. Hayley Matthews looked to get off to a brilliant start, hitting 3 fours and a six in her 12-ball 22, but Kashvee Gautam changed ends in her second spell and sent the Windies batter back.
With the powerplay score at 48/2, the two Kaurs joined forces with Amanjot getting a promotion at number 3, scoring 40 in just 26 balls with 7 boundaries. Harmanpreet took her time to settle down, but never looked back after getting set with both the batters finding boundaries consistently.
72 runs were added for the 3rd wicket before Amanjot was sent back by Sophie Devine. Harmanpreet got 3 lives and moved her 5th half-century against the Giants and also became the 2nd player in WPL after Nat-Sciver Brunt to breach the 1000-run mark.
