From Sunil Gavaskar to MS Dhoni: Full List of Indians in ICC Hall of Fame
MS Dhoni, the legendary former captain of India, has been honoured by being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. With this, he becomes the 11th Indian cricketer to receive this special recognition. The ICC announced on June 9, just a few weeks before Dhoni's 44th birthday.
The award comes almost five years after MS Dhoni retired from international cricket. He played his last match for India in the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final. After India lost that match and were knocked out of the tournament, Dhoni didn’t play any more international games. Over a year later, on August 15, 2020, he officially announced his retirement.
Dhoni's Record-Breaking Career and Captaincy Milestones
He is the first Indian wicket-keeper to score 4,000 Test runs and holds records for the most dismissals by an Indian wicket-keeper. In ODIs, Dhoni scored 10,773 runs at an average of 50.57, with 10 centuries and 73 fifties.
He was the captain when India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2011 Cricket World Cup, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. This made him the only captain to win all three major ICC limited-overs tournaments. He also helped India win the Asia Cup in 2010 and 2016. His smart thinking and calm leadership earned him the ICC ODI Player of the Year award in both 2008 and 2009.
