BPL Fixing Scandal: BCB Launches Inquiry Panel to Investigate BPL Fixing Claims

The Bangladesh Crickеt Board (BCB) has decided to set up an independent team to assist the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) in its ongoing investigation into match-fixing claims in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The move was madе as growing concerns over corruption have been spotted in Bangladesh's biggest T20 franchise tournament.
The ongoing season of BPL is being critically scrutinized on allegations of corruption. It is reported that ACU has referred eight matches for suspected spot-fixing and match-fixing. These suspicions arise from anonymous complaints and media reports. In addition, 10 players are also under investigation in which six are international cricketers for Bangladesh and the rest four include two uncapped Bangladeshi players and two foreign cricketers.
Durbar Rajshahi and Dhaka Capitals are under the most scrutiny, each receiving 12 integrity flags. Sylhet Strikers and Chittagong Kings are also being monitored, with six and two flags, respectively. Some matches have been flagged as suspicious including Fortune Barishal vs Rajshahi on January 6 and Rangpur Riders vs Dhaka on January 7.
In responsе to the allegations BCB President Faruque Ahmed has strongly supported the fight against corruption and said that the board is determined to make the league completely free from corruption. In a press release, the BCB said:
"The BCB has also come across media coverage regarding potential anti-corruption concerns about the BPL. The Board reiterates its firm commitment to upholding the integrity and spirit of the game. The BCB strictly adheres to the ICC Anti-Corruption Code for Participants and maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption in any form,”
“The BCB Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) is continuously monitoring all matters relating to integrity within Bangladesh cricket, addressing them with due confidentiality and discretion. As part of its ongoing efforts, the BCB is in the process of establishing an independent inquiry body to further support the ACU in its investigations,”
“The BCB remains dedicated to ensuring a fair and transparent cricketing environment and will continue to take all necessary actions to safeguard the integrity of the sport in Bangladesh."
