Sydney Thunder will begin their BBL 2025/26 season on a low note as captain David Warner will miss the opening match. The star batter picked up a right-leg injury during a casual beach outing with his children.

Warner’s non-appearance in this match is because the Thunder are trying to bounce back from their defeat at the hands of Hurricanes in the final of last season’s competition. He ended up being the team’s leading runs-scorer with a total of 405 runs.

David Warner is an Australian cricketer who retired from international cricket but continues to play in T20 franchise leagues.

His enforced absence in the opener could lead the Thunder to explore some batting roles.
