Zaman gets a chastening, Khawaja impresses on BBL 15 debut

Pakistan young pacer Zaman Khan had a forgettable day, playing his first game for Brisbane Heat in the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). Zaman, who replaced the injured Shaheen Shah Afridi on the Heat side, was tonked for 32 runs in three wicketless overs against the Sydney Thunder.
Warner vs Zaman
The highlight of his spell, however, came after the 14th over, in which Zaman conceded 14 runs. David Warner, who was batting alongside Sam Billings and had hit one of three fours off Zaman in that over, was caught on the stump mic talking to on-field umpire Ben Treloar. Warner was heard saying that the Pakistan fast bowler’s action was “like a four-year-old bowling because it stays so low.”
Zaman’s slingy action has raised a fair few eyebrows over the years, but there has been no official reprimand to substantiate those concerns. As for his outing against the Thunder, in his defence, he was utilised out of position, as he is largely a death-overs specialist.
Khawaja’s stellar innings
Besides Zaman, it was also the first game of the season for Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne. Khawaja, however, ensured it was a memorable outing, scoring 78 off 48 balls. Unfortunately, he was dismissed with the Heat still five runs away from victory. He was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant knock, which ultimately took his team over the line while chasing Thunder’s imposing target.
