Australia Head Coach Andrew McDonald to Leave Mid-ODI Series Against India

Andrew McDonaldIn a surprising turn of events, Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald is set to leave the team in the middle of the ongoing ODI series against India. This comes after just one match of the three-match series between Shubman Gill’s India and Mitchell Marsh’s Australia. The series opener was played at Perth Stadium on Sunday, October 19, marking Shubman

Gill’s bad luck at the toss continued as Mitchell Marsh won it and Australia chose to have India bat first. The pitch offered plenty of help to the bowlers, and Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Ellis quickly attacked India’s top order, leaving them struggling at 25/3. Rain interruptions made things even tougher for India and after each break, the bowlers kept picking wickets. Because of the delays, the match was reduced to 26 overs per side with KL Rahul top-scoring with 38 to help India reach 136/9.

In reply, Australia lost Travis Head early, but captain Mitchell Marsh played an excellent innings to guide his team. Josh Philippe and Matt Renshaw also contributed well as Australia comfortably chased the target, winning the match by seven wickets.

The second ODI between India and Australia will take place at Adelaide Oval on Thursday, October 23, while the third and final ODI will be held at Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, October 25.

Australia will be without their head coach, Andrew McDonald, for the last two matches, as he leaves the squad to lead a confidential Ashes-planning meeting ahead of the five-match Test series against England. In his place, assistant coach Andre Borovec will step in as the stand-in head coach for the remaining ODIs against India.
