Aussie Star Alyssa Healy Ruled Out of WPL 2025, UP Warriorz in Trouble
In a big sеtback for UP Warriorz, their Australian captain Alyssa Healy has decided to skip WPL 2025, just days before the tournament begins. The current skipper of the national team confirmed on Saturday, after the Women's Ashes ended, that she won’t be playing in this year’s WPL.
This means that UP Warriorz will have to look for a new captain for the season. The reason Healy might have taken this decision is that she has been injured multiple times in the past few months. She was ruled out of some matches in the T20 World Cup because of a foot injury, and then a knee injury stopped her from playing in the WBBL.
Alyssa Healy said that she required some time to get back in shape. "Unfortunately for me, I have to take a few months off. I'm prеtty disappointed about it, but at the same time, I'm glad to have some rest and focus on getting my body back to full fitness. But for now, I'm looking forward to soaking my feet in an ice bucket," she said.
“It’s been a really frustrating probably 18 months for me … you get yourself right, back playing, and something else goes wrong. (I’m) going to have a look at a couple of things and how I can be better, maybe a bit more disciplined in some areas, and make sure I’m right to go in particular for that ODI World Cup,” Healy added.
In Healy's absence, Uma Chetry could be promoted as the wicketkeeper and India all-rounder Deepti Sharma seems to be a strong contender for the captaincy. UP Warriorz has another option in Australian star Tahlia McGrath, who brings plenty of experience to the squad.
