Afghanistan Reveals New Jersey in Honor of Cultural Heritage Ahead of Champions Trophy

On Thursday, January 30th, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) revealed the new jersey for the men’s cricket team. What makes this jеrsey so spеcial is the fact that it was inspirеd by the Jam Minaret, a historic and cultural landmark of Afghanistan. The announcement is madе as Afghanistan gets ready to make their debut in the ICC Champions Trophy aftеr qualifying for the tournament as one of the top eight teams at the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Since becoming a full member nation in 2017, Afghanistan’s cricket has grown. It is a moment of pride for the country as they have qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy, a return of an eight-team tournament after eight years. The ACB shared this excitement on social media through a special video. The spotlight is also on the new jersey, as well as the stunning mountains of Afghanistan, while the video features captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and other team members. 

The jersey is designed by Jam Minaret, a historical artifact which is in Firuzkuh , and was built approximately 800 years ago. This 65-meter-high Minaret is situated on the bank of the Harirod River and depicts the Afghan cultural heritage. The jersey has the Naskh calligraphy with the Jam Minaret’s complicated patterns on it, which are the symbol of unity and national pride. Therefore, as the Afghan cricket team is to face the world's best teams, they proudly don the colors of their country and the beauty of the Jam Minaret.

In the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Afghanistan will be playing in Group B, along with somе big teams like Australia, South Africa and England. Afghanistan has been quite good recently in white-ball cricket. They shocked everyonе in the 2023 ODI World Cup by beating three former champions and almost beating a fourth. It has also reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. With these spectacular performances, Afghanistan is a team that people should look out for.
