Zalmi’s young pacer Ali Raza becomes the youngest PSL player to bag a hat-trick

Peshawar Zalmi picked up four wickets in three balls against Karachi Kings, with Abbas Afridi running himself out on a wide ball and Ali Raza claiming a hat-trick. Raza, who turned 18 last month, becomes the youngest bowler in PSL’s history to achieve the feat.

Raza’s eventful final over

Bowling the final over, Raza bowled a wide and conceded a six and a four off Karachi’s late-order batters, Abbas Afridi and Khushdil Shah. But what transpired next helped him make up for the loose bowling. Following Abbas’ baffling run out, Khushdil Shah’s heel disturbed the wickets, causing him to return to the pavilion, leaving Karachi in a lurch.

Raza then bowled a toe-crushing yorker, right in the block hole, to bang Shahid Aziz’s stumps and send him back for a duck on the penultimate ball of the first innings. A hit wicket and a bowled on consecutive balls gave Raza a hat-trick chance, which he grabbed with both hands.

He sealed it on the final ball, clocking 149.1 kph as he castled Hasan Ali to complete the hat-trick.

Ismail unfortunately misses out

Later in the day, Multan Sultans’ Mohammad Ismail had a similar opportunity but missed out in unfortunate fashion. His hat-trick ball brushed Usman Khan’s bat but no one from the side appealed. Later, UltraEdge showed a spike as the ball passed the bat.

Usman Khan went on to score the fastest hundred of the league and guided Hyderabad Kingsmen to victory.

List of bowlers with PSL hattricks:

  • Mohammad Amir (Karachi Kings, 2016)
  • Junaid Khan (Multan Sultans, 2018)
  • Imran Tahir (Multan Sultans, 2018)
  • Mohammad Sami (Islamabad United, 2019)
  • Abbas Afridi (Multan Sultans, 2023)
  • Akeal Hosein (Quetta Gladiators, 2024)
  • Ali Raza (Peshawar Zalmi, 2026)
