Mohammad Nawaz tested positive for recreational drug use during the T20 World Cup
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is investigating spin all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz after he tested positive for recreational drug use.
Sample was taken during T20 World Cup
The sample, which tested positive, is understood to have been taken during the recent T20 World Cup. A PCB spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday that the ICC informed the board of the positive result.
A PCB spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo: "The International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about this matter, and PCB has begun the due process. The results of this process will be communicated to the ICC today."
Nawaz, who played all of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup games, grabbed seven wickets and scored 15 runs during the competition before Pakistan were knocked out in the group stages.
Deal with Surrey terminated
He had reportedly reached an agreement with Surrey for the Vitality Blast, set to be played from May 26 until July 18.
While the signing was not made official, the PCB granted him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the entire competition. However, the county is believed to have terminated the deal with the spin all-rounder, likely in the wake of the news.
Nawaz is currently playing for Multan Sultans, who have one foot in the playoffs. After playing eight games, he has taken six wickets at an average of 35.66, his second worst in PSL’s history.
