Yashasvi Jaiswal Battles Food Poisoning, Loses 2 Kg in Just Two Days: Reports

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal had a major health scare on Tuesday and was rushed to a hospital. The left-handed opener had stomach cramps following a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match between Mumbai and Rajasthan at Pune. The 23-year-old batsman had to be admitted to Aditya Birla Hospital due to acute gastroenteritis. The batsman scored 15 off 16 balls as Mumbai chased down a target of 217.

A report has now confirmed that Jaiswal "ate something" in the hotel in which he was staying at the time, which led to the complication. “It is food poisoning. He has eaten something in the hotel in Pune, which has caused all this. There was some pain, but he is much better after taking some medication. He has already lost more than 2 kgs in the last two days, and the doctors have advised him to rest for the next 7-10 days," TOI said to a source.

He may be forced to miss a couple of first rounds of matches in the VHT, which is known as the Vijay Hazare Trophy and is set to start on December 24. “It would be tough and tight for the first few matches for him to make an appearance for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There are ODIs against New Zealand as well, following the matches he would be playing would definitely be picked for the series as well,” said the source.

Jaiswal has been experiencing stomach pains during the SMAT series, and the problem escalated for him following the match. At the hospital, a scanning process was done as well as an ultrasonograph. Furthermore, appropriate medical care was sought. Later, medical follow-ups indicated he to continue with his drugs as well as rest.

While speaking about yesterday’s match, an unbeaten 72 by Ajinkya Rahane and an aggressive 22-ball 73 by Sarfaraz Khan helped Mumbai win the match by three wickets against Rajasthan in Super League Group B of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Rahane made 72 runs from 41 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes, though it was Sarfaraz who came out with guns blazing in another high chase above 200, smashing 7 sixes and 6 fours for 73 in just 22 balls. With a target of 217, Mumbai never lifted their feet off the accelerator and, although losing their wickets, were right on course to notch their second win, overhauling the target with 11 balls to spare with Rahane anchoring the pursuit.
