WPL 2025 Points Table: Latest Standings After Gujarat Giants Women (GGW) vs Delhi Capitals Women (DCW)

WPL 2025 Points Table: Latest Standings After Gujarat Giants Women (GGW) vs Delhi Capitals Women (DCW)Shafali Verma (44) and Jess Jonassen’s (61 not out) brilliant innings showed how completely the Delhi Capitals dominated the game as they beat the Gujarat Giants by six wickets in a one-sided match on Tuesday. The Gujarat Giants could only manage 127 for nine in the first half, and Delhi chased down the target in just 15.1 overs, with opener Shafali hitting a fast 44 off 27 balls – her best score of the season.

After winning their third game in five matches, Delhi Capitals climbed to the top of the points table, although their net run rate was still in the negative at -0.223 in this five-team tournament. Verma and Jonassen put together a quick 74-run partnership in just 37 balls, which gave Delhi Capitals a solid platform for the win and dashed the Giants’ hopes of a comeback even after they managed to dismiss Meg Lanning for just 3 runs early in the chase.

Verma looked in her element, smashing three sixes and five fours until her scoring spree was finally halted by Giants skipper Ashleigh Gardner, who trapped her in front of the stumps.

Jonassen, however, stayed unbeaten with a brilliant 61 off 32 balls (9 fours, 2 sixes), marking her first half-century of the season. Along with Verma, she hammered the Giants’ bowling attack, gathering runs from all parts of the ground. This showed that the pitch, which seemed tricky in the first half, didn’t have as many challenges as it first appeared.

The Gujarat Giants, on the other hand, struggled badly, reaching only 60 for six halfway through their innings. Delhi Capitals' bowlers Marizanne Kapp (2/17), Shikha Pandey (2/18), and Annabel Sutherland (2/20) each took two wickets, making sure Gujarat had no chance of posting a competitive total. The only real slip-up for Delhi came near the end of the chase when they lost Jemimah Rodrigues (5) and Annabel Sutherland (1) in quick succession.

Earlier in the match, Bharti Fulmali saved the day by scoring an important 40 not out. Batting at number 8, she fought back with two sixes and four fours in just 29 balls, helping the Gujarat Giants move past 125 after a shaky start that had left them at 60 for six halfway through.

Deandra Dottin scored 26 and hit five fours, but she couldn’t build on her start as the Delhi Capitals’ bowlers worked well together.

The Delhi pace pair, Marizanne Kapp (2/17) and Shikha Pandey (2/18), took charge by tearing through the Giants’ top order, reducing them to 20 for four during the power play. On a pitch that offered extra bounce and movement for the bowlers, Kapp first caught Harleen Deol edging her bat and later got Phoebe Litchfield out by trapping her in front of the stumps for a duck.

In the fourth over, Pandey took the wickets of both Beth Mooney (10) and Kashvee Gautam (0) in the same way both were caught by Niki Prasad at deep backward square leg and deep midwicket. Then, Titas Sadhu (1/15) got another wicket by dismissing Giants skipper Ashleigh Gardner (3), marking the team's fifth wicket. In the 11th over, Sutherland finished off Dottin, ending her innings.
