Women’s World Cup 2025 Final: Is There a Reserve Day for India vs South Africa? What Happens If It’s Washed Out?

[ Poll: EwmJ0dyQ ]

The Women's ODI World Cup final will be played between India and South Africa on Sunday at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. After a long time, a new champion will be crowned. But this time, the real opponent may not be a team, but the weather. The city's current 74% humidity, 31-degree temperatures, and winds blowing at around 20 km/h are already testing the player's fitness.

Rain threat over India vs South Africa final, Reserve Day in place for 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup trophy clash

Furthermore, the weather department has predicted rain on Sunday, raising the anxiety of fans. The ICC has designated a reserve day for the Women's World Cup final, but efforts will be made to ensure the match concludes on November 2nd, even if the number of overs has to be reduced. If the rain persists and the match cannot be completed that day, the game will only be moved to the next day, the reserve day.

The ICC clarified that matches will be moved to a reserve day in two situations. First, if 50-over play has already begun and is interrupted by rain (e.g., at 19 overs) and a new reduced-over match cannot begin, the full 50-over match will be replayed the next day. Second, if play has begun with reduced overs (e.g., 46 overs per innings) and then rain occurs, the match will continue from the start on the reserve day, not restart. This means the difference depends on whether the reduced-over phase began or not. If rain persists on both days, November 2 and 3, and the match cannot be completed, both India and South Africa will be declared joint winners.

The DY Patil Stadium has previously been affected by rain in this tournament. The India-Bangladesh match was abandoned at this ground, while the India-New Zealand match was interrupted for a long time. This time, the ground staff is fully prepared to ensure the final is completed at any cost. As for the teams, South Africa reached the Women's ODI World Cup final for the first time.

They defeated England by 125 runs in the semi-final, securing a resounding victory. Meanwhile, India pulled off a major upset by defeating Australia by 5 wickets in the semi-final. Chasing 339, Team India defeated Australia, which had been unbeaten for 15 matches, and secured a place in the title match.
