Will Sanju Samson’s Decision to Skip Vijay Hazare Trophy Impact His Champions Trophy Selection?

Sanju Samson skipped Kerala's practice sessions before the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the top BCCI officials are trying to figure out why he was absent. With crucial player selections coming up for two key events, the matches against England and the Champions Trophy, Samson's absence could hurt his chances of making the team. The BCCI is set to finalize the players in just a few days.

The officials at BCCI are not happy because Samson said he won't join the game, and they want all the cricket games in the country to stay key. Samson informed the Kerala team that he couldn't go to the training camp before the tournament, so KCA said he couldn't be on the team. The Kerala team's secretary, Vinod S Kumar, said they picked a player else because they weren't sure if Samson would play. They didn't want to leave out players else who really wanted to play entire the tournament.

According to the BCCI sources said. "The selectors and the board have been very clear on the importance of domestic cricket. Last year, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer lost central contracts for missing domestic matches without seeking permission. Even in Samson's case, the board and selectors were not given any reason why he missed the tournament. All that is known so far is that he spends much of his time in Dubai," 

Sanju Samson's Career Statistics Across Formats

Some BCCI officials believe they need to address an issue before selecting players for the Champions Trophy on January 19. The Vijay Hazare Trophy, an important 50-over tournament, is crucial because it aligns with the Champions Trophy format. Samson has been included in the T20I series against England, which begins next week.

the source said. "The selectors would want a valid reason. Otherwise, it will be difficult to consider him for the ODI season. Samson has had a bitter history with the KCA, but that needs to be sorted out for him to play in domestic cricket. It can't be that the state association and him have a misunderstanding, and he misses out on game time. He did play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy preceding the Vijay Hazare Trophy,"

Samson wants to be one of the two players who get to keep wickets, just like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Dhruv Jurel. Rahul has had some major injuries in his leg muscles called hamstrings, and KL is not sure if he can be the wicketkeeper in long games because of those injuries. It will be interesting to see what the selectors decide if Rahul cannot take on the role of wicketkeeper.
