Why Are UP Warriorz Playing in a Pink Jersey in Today’s WPL Clash vs MI?

UP Warriorz are wearing a pink outfit in their return match against Mumbai Indians in the on-going Women’s Premier League on Saturday. MI opted to bowl first in the 10th match of the season as UP Warriorz field an unchanged team.

UP Warriorz promote girl's education with special pink jersey against Mumbai Indians in WPL 2026

UPW have worn the special team jersey to promote flexible and open schooling to enable girls to have continued schooling. The Warriorz have retained the starting lineup they had in the last game, while MI have made two substitutions to return Hayley Matthews to the lineup and introduce Nalla Kranthi Reddy.

UPW said in an official statement that,

“At UP Warriorz, we believe sport has the power to shape conversations that extend far beyond the game. This special match reflects our belief that education should adapt to life, not the other way around. Through our partnership with Educate Girls, we hope to normalise second chances in education and remind every girl that her learning journey does not have to end because life took a different turn,"

On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians, who needed to gain momentum from back-to-back wins following their close loss in their first match, fell to the second spot in the points table after their loss to the Warriorz. The UP Warriorz have faced a struggling start as they have lost three matches in a row, but they have come back with a bang as they won by seven wickets against the Mumbai Indians on Thursday.

After winning the toss, MI Captain Harmanpreet Kaur said that they would bowl first as they have the habit of chasing successfully. She also announced the replacement inclusion of Matthews because of the day match, replacing the resting Ismail, and replacing Poonam with Kanchan.

The captain of the Warriorz team, Meg Lanning, revealed she would like to bowl first, but further revealed the possibility of succeeding while batting first, as Gujarat had been performing so effectively earlier. The captain was ready to face Mumbai again and revealed the same playing eleven.
