Pat Cummins, Aussie Stars Frustrated Over Cricket Australia Contract Offers

Cricket Australia (CA) recently sent central contract offers for the 2026-27 season, but some senior Australian players are reportedly unhappy with the deals. Instead of signing immediately, several players are still discussing the offers, which is unusual in Australian cricket.

The main reason is the growing money in T20 franchise leagues around the world. Tournaments like SA20, ILT20 and The Hundred are offering huge salaries, especially for white-ball players. Because of this, many cricketers are now thinking carefully before committing to long national contracts.

Earlier this year, Pat Cummins spoke about Australia’s Bangladesh Test series clashing with The Hundred. Missing the tournament could reportedly cost players around A$675,000 (about INR 4.8 crore).

Australia’s schedule is also creating frustration. The team will play 17 Tests in the next cycle but only nine ODIs and five T20Is. Since CA rewards Test cricket more, many white-ball players feel they are not earning enough compared to what franchise leagues offer.

Players like Marcus Stoinis and Tim David have already chosen flexible contracts so they can focus more on franchise cricket and earn bigger salaries around the world.

Australia contract structure for 2026-27

Lowest base contract A$360,645

BBL Salary Gap Leaves Australian Players Frustrated

League/Tournament Approx Salary

Top Australian BBL stars A$200,000–300,000
ILT20 offers to Australian players Up to A$500,000
