WBBL Preview: Thunder Look to Lessen Pressure on Star Players

WBBL Preview: Thunder Look to Lessen Pressure on Star Players

The Sydney Thunder had a mixed performance in WBBL|09, finishing fourth with a record of 7 wins, 6 losses, and 1 no result. They faced a tough exit, falling to Brisbane Heat in the Eliminator. As they gear up for WBBL|10, the Thunder are looking to strengthen their squad and reduce the burden on their key players.

This season, the Thunder have made some notable signings, welcoming Georgia Adams from the Strikers, Chamari Athapaththu from Sri Lanka, and South African star Shabnim Ismail. Additionally, they have added Taneale Peschel and Georgia Voll to their roster. However, they will be without Lauren Smith, Marizanne Kapp, and Lauren Bell, who have departed the team.

The potential best XI showcases a formidable lineup, including Athapaththu, Tahlia Wilson as wicketkeeper, and England captain Heather Knight, who is recovering from a calf injury sustained during the World Cup. While Knight has received medical clearance to join the squad in Sydney, her availability may be limited due to her upcoming commitments with the England team against South Africa later in the season.

Coach Lisa Keightley is optimistic about the team's prospects, particularly with Athapaththu's impressive performance last season, which propelled them to the finals. Keightley emphasizes the importance of teamwork and shared responsibilities, aiming to alleviate the pressure on individual players.

The Thunder will be counting on consistent performances from both seasoned and new players as they aim for a strong campaign in WBBL|10.
