Rabada Celebrates 300th Test Wicket: "A Relief to Reach the Milestone"
Kagiso Rabada expressed surprise at the pitch conditions during the first Test against Bangladesh, where he achieved his 300th Test wicket. Despite not focusing on the milestone at the beginning of the match, he noted the unexpected seam movement that played a crucial role in the day’s play, which saw 16 wickets fall.
"We anticipated more spin than seam, but the new ball provided some movement," Rabada observed after the day's matches. "There wasn’t much swing, but off the surface, it seamed significantly. It mirrored what we experienced in the nets, which was a pleasant surprise."
Wiaan Mulder set the tone early, claiming three wickets and capitalizing on the Bangladesh top order's aggressive approach. Rabada joined the wicket-taking party during his second spell, ultimately reaching the remarkable milestone of his 300th Test wicket. With this achievement, he became the fastest bowler to reach this landmark in Test cricket history, surpassing Waqar Younis' long-standing record from 24 years ago.
Before the match began, Rabada harbored concerns about South Africa's strategy, having been asked to bowl first at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, known for its notoriously spin-friendly pitches. However, the duo of Mulder and Rabada quickly had the home side reeling at 45 runs.
