Virat Kohli Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s Record With a Stunning Hundred on His Vijay Hazare Trophy Return

Every single time Virat Kohli goes out to play, a record goes for a toss. On Wednesday morning in Bengaluru, as Delhi chased down 299 against Andhra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Virat Kohli was due to partner Arpit Rana, who got out for a duck. Virat needed one run to achieve the feat of scoring 16,000 runs in List A cricket. He didn’t have to wait long. In the very first over that he faced, Virat walked into a length ball from Nitish Kumar Reddy, and the ball sailed across to the other side. Record achieved. Statement made by Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli Overtakes Sachin Tendulkar With a Record-Breaking Hundred on Vijay Hazare Trophy Return

With that same hit, Kohli became the second Indian, the second player overall, to surpass 16,000 List A runs, behind, of course, Sachin Tendulkar. But the bigger achievement was the next figure that followed. That was his 330th innings. It took him that long to achieve it. It took Sachin Tendulkar 391 innings to reach the same feat. In the history of men’s List A cricket, no player has reached the 16,000 mark quicker. And that’s not all, since Kohli also holds the record for the fastest achievement to reach all these milestones.

Innings Runs Fifties Hundreds Average
17 1,010* 4 5 60.66

With this achievement, Kohli has joined an elite group of just nine players in the history of cricket to aggregate 16,000 List A runs. As already explained in the above points, he ranks second among Indian players behind Sachin Tendulkar. However, compared to all other players, his average of just under 57 is greatly ahead of the rest. The second-highest average in this list belongs to Sachin Tendulkar, who has an average of 45.54, followed by Kumar Sangakkara.

As a matter of fact, most of his List-A cricket is played in the one-day internationals. He has scored most of his List-A runs in one-day internationals. That is 14557. He is the second most successful run scorer in the history of one-day internationals and holds the record for the most centuries in one-day internationals (53). Though Sachin Tendulkar is regarded as the best batting talent of all time, Virat Kohli may surpass him in the list of the best 50-over batsmen.

Virat Kohli has made an excellent return in the most popular 50-over national tournament of India with a ton. He played the last time in the Indian top 50-over tournament in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in February of the year 2010. Now, he is coming in the year 2025. Therefore, in the above-mentioned period of his appearances in the VHT tournament, he completed his whole Test career.

In other matches, Rohit Sharma also stamped his class with a 62-ball century for Mumbai against Sikkim on the same morning. Rohit was literally pounding fun on the Sikkim bowlers at a packed Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur with eight fours and four sixes in no time.
