Varun Aaron Announces Retirement from Representative Cricket

Indian pacer Varun Aaron who played 9 tests and 9 ODIs for India between 2011 and 2015 has announced his retirement from the game. Aaron, who played in this year's Vijay Hazare Trophy for Jharkhand, announced his decision on social media, thus bringing down the curtain on a 17-year cricket professional journey.

“For the past 20 years, I have lived, breathed, and thrived on the rush of bowling fast. Today, with immense gratitude, I officially announce my retirement from representative cricket,” Aaron wrote.

“I've had to push both my physical and mental limits to recover from numerous career-threatening injuries, having to come back time and again, this was only possible thanks to the relentless dedication of the physios, trainers, and coaches at the National Cricket Academy.

“I'd also like to thank the BCCI, JSCA, Red Bull, SG Cricket, and MRF Tyres for their invaluable support during critical junctures in my career.”

A Journey of Raw Pace

Aaron created his mark 14 years ago as one of the fastest bowlers in India and the world. He made his presence felt in the IPL 2011 season playing three games for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) his raw pace caught attention. He made his ODI, Test debut later that year.

During India's tour of England in 2014, Aaron’s pace stood out, including a sharp bouncer that broke Stuart Broad's nose. His performances impressed county side Durham, which signed him for the last few weeks of the season. Aaron was earlier part of Kolkata Knight Riders but made his IPL debut Royal in Challengers 2011 Bangalore for Delhi INR Daredevils. 2 crore in 2014 (approximately USD 300,000) and bought was retained by the team before the 2016 auction.

He played 9 Tests in England and Australia. His last test was in Bengaluru against South Africa in 2015 where he delivered a great ball to dismiss Hashim Amla that became his last Test wicket.

Aaron played 52 IPL games across five franchises over the years. His last IPL appearance was in the 2022 season for Gujarat Titans.

At 35, Varun Aaron bids farewell to cricket, leaving behind memories of his fiery pace and determination through injuries.
