Suryakumar Yadav Likely To Play Practice Match In Mumbai Ahead Of England Series

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is likely to play a practice match in Mumbai before the upcoming Ireland and England series. The star batter is expected to represent Triumph Knight Mumbai North East against the Uganda cricket team on May 30.

Uganda are currently on a tour of Mumbai, where they will play four one-day matches and a few T20 games. Some of the T20 matches will be against teams participating in the Mumbai T20 League, which starts on June 1.

According to PTI, Suryakumar is part of the Triumph Knight squad and is likely to feature in the game. MCA secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar confirmed that the Indian captain is expected to play if available.

Khanvilkar said that whenever an Indian captain plays against any team, it becomes a huge motivation for the opposition as well. He added that such matches provide a great cricketing experience for everyone involved.

The match is expected to be played at the MCA ground in BKC. It will give Suryakumar some much-needed practice before the international season. At the same time, young Mumbai players will also get a valuable opportunity to perform alongside senior stars.

MCA Plans More Exposure Matches for Bench Players

MCA president Ajinkya Naik said these games are important for players who are not part of the senior Mumbai or Indian teams. He explained that the association is trying to create more exposure opportunities for bench players through tours and competitive matches.

Naik also mentioned that Mumbai’s men’s and women’s teams are scheduled to travel to the UK later this year. According to him, such exposure tours help players improve their confidence and experience.

On the personal front, Suryakumar is going through a difficult phase with Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. The aggressive batter managed only 270 runs in 14 matches and could not make a major impact for his side.

There have been rumours that his place as India’s T20I captain could come under pressure if his poor form continues. Some reports have even linked Tilak Varma as a possible future captaincy option. However, no official decision has been taken yet. The final call regarding India’s T20I captaincy will depend on the selectors and head coach Gautam Gambhir in the coming months.
