Team India Faces Setback as Jasprit Bumrah Could Miss Champions Trophy

Many hoped that Jasprit Bumrah would have come back for the Champions Trophy, at least for the knockout stages. But a new report is that the star bowler has been advised to rest at home. A final decision on his return will be made once the swelling in his back reduces. Bumrah left the field mid way through the IND vs AUS Test in Sydney due to discomfort, and was missed for the rest of the match due to a back spasm.
According to a report in the Times of India, Jasprit Bumrah’s recovery doesn’t seem very promising at the moment. “ Bumrah could go to the CoE next week but right now there is no fixed date yet. He has been advised bed rest at home to help the muscles recover and the swelling to subside. Once that is done, future course of action will be ascertained,” said a source.
The report further reveals that Jasprit Bumrah will not be rushed back to cricket. “Bed rest doesn’t sound good. I hope it’s not a disc bulge or a muscle swelling which is of a higher grade. The approach has to be similar with him – wrap him in cotton wool and preserve the talent like him,” added the source.
Former India strength and conditioning coach Ramji Srinivasan commented, that the exact time of his return can be guessed, after a proper diagnosis. “Swelling happens if there is a tear because of edema formation – which depends on the grade of tear in the muscle. If it’s a disc bulge or swelling then recovery also depends on grade, individual capacity, medical intervention and post medical rehab work,” said Srinivasan.
The BCCI has not yet announced the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 as had been expected to be announced by January 12. But that announcement is now scheduled for January 18-19. The squad can be updated or changed until February 13.
