Tamil Nadu Premier League 2025: Points Table, Top Run-Scorers & Wicket-Takers After SS vs TGC
Spartans sign off the Coimbatore leg with a thrilling win. They beat Trichy Grand Cholas by 7 runs to make it two wins in a row. The Grand Cholas tried hard, but it wasn't meant to be for them as they suffer their second straight loss in this edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
Trichy Grand Cholas got off to a disastrous start in the chase of 180. S Sujay (4), skipper J Suresh Kumar (0), HI Waseem Ahmed (16) and U Mukilesh (2) departed inside the powerplay. Jagatheesan Kousik and Sanjay Yadav tried to resurrect the innings before the latter fell on 11 in the ninth over. Impact sub Jafar Jamal was dismissed cheaply on two as the Grand Cholas were reeling at 49/6 at the end of 10 overs. The pair of Kousik and R Rajkumar kept their side in the game. Rajkumar hit five fours and as many maximums to score 26-ball 59 before getting dismissed in the 17th over.
Spartans Hold Nerve in Final Over to Beat Grand Cholas by 7 Runs
Kousik and N Selva Kumaran tried hard and took the game to the last over. With 16 required to win from the final over, Poiyamozhi held his nerves for the Spartans and defended it successfully. Kousik (62) and Selva Kumaran (13) failed to take the Grand Cholas across the line as they lost the game by seven runs. M Mohammed (4/20) and Sunny Sandhu (2/18) were the pick of the bowlers for the Spartans as they defended the total successfully to remain unbeaten in the competition.
Earlier, it was C Hari Nishaanth who held the innings nicely for the Spartans after they were asked to bat first. Skipper S Abishiek (10), Rajendran Vivek (2) and R Kavin (3) fell cheaply but Nishaanth kept going strong and brought up a quickfire fifty. He received good support from Sunny Sandhu (45) as both built a solid 93-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Nishaanth hit seven fours and three maximums to score 83 off 58 before holing out in the deep in the 17th over. His departure helped the Grand Cholas pull back things. Some brilliant death bowling saw them restrict the Spartans to 179/8 at the end of their innings. V Athisayaraj Davidson bowled beautifully and registered figures of 3/31 for the Grand Cholas. The game went down the wire, and the Grand Cholas fell agonizingly short by seven runs to remain winless.
