How IPL Teams Are Expanding Their Presence in The Hundred
With this deal, they became the third Indian Premier League (IPL) team to invest in The Hundred. Earlier the Ambani family, who owns the Mumbai Indians team in IPL, bought a 49% stake in Oval Invincibles for £60 million. And the Lucknow Super Giants owner, Sanjiv Goenka purchased 70% of Manchester Originals for around £81 million.
In other deals, IT entrepreneur Sanjay Govil bought 49% of Welsh Frie for around £40 million. Birmingham Phoenix also sold the same percentage to Knighthead Capital, the owners of Birmingham City Football Club for £40 million.
Another major deal happened between London Spirit and a Silicon Valley group led by Nikesh Arora. The group bought a 49% stake in the franchise for a huge £140 million. Since London Spirit is based at Lord’s, one of cricket’s most famous venues, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) managed to sell it at a premium price.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals is likely to take over Southern Brave. Since Brave is linked to Hampshire, DC is set to invest heavily and secure majority ownership. The deal is expected to be finalized soon.
