Sri Lanka Crush Oman by 105 Runs to Stay Unbeaten in T20 World Cup

Sri Lanka Crush Oman by 105 Runs to Stay Unbeaten in T20 World Cup

[ Poll: 4y2pJeZd ]

Sri Lanka now have two wins in two matches in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. After beating Ireland earlier, they easily defeated Oman today. Oman lost badly by 105 runs and are still without a win in the tournament. Chasing 226 was always difficult, and they started poorly.

They lost skipper Jatinder Singh (1), Aamir Kaleem (6) and Hammad Mirza (9) inside the first six overs. Mohammad Nadeem and Wasim Ali resurrected the innings with a 42-run stand for the fourth wicket. The Lankans dented Oman’s progress by dismissing Wasim (27), Vinayak Shukla (1), Jiten Ramanandi (0) and Nadeem Khan (2) in a quick succession.

Sri Lanka crush Oman by 105 runs to make it two wins in two

Mohammad Nadeem scored a fighting fifty and remained unbeaten on 53 as Oman finished their innings on 120/9 to lose the game by 105 runs. Dushmantha Chameera (2/19) and Maheesh Theekshana (2/11) picked up two wickets each for Sri Lanka. Dunith Wellalage (1/17), Dushan Hemantha (1/45) and Kamindu Mendis (1/10) grabbed a scalp each as they completed a dominant performance with the ball in hand.

Earlier, Sri Lanka were asked to bat first and they lost both their openers in Kamil Mishara (8) and Pathum Nissanka (13) inside the powerplay. Kusal Mendis along with Pavan Rathnayake steadied the ship for the Lankans with a solid 94-run stand. Rathnayake scored a quickfire 28-ball 60 before falling in the 14th over.

Skipper Dasun Shanaka came out all guns blazing and dealt in boundaries. He played some fantastic shots and raced to his fifty in just 19 balls, the fastest for Sri Lanka in T20Is. He holed out in the deep on 20-ball 50 in the penultimate over of the innings. Kusal Mendis played a well-composed knock of 61 and a cameo from Kamindu Mendis (19* off 7) powered Sri Lanka to 225/5, their second-highest T20I total. Jiten Ramanandi (2/41) picked up two scalps for Oman. In reply, their batters faltered as only two of them managed to get to double digits as they lost the game by 105 runs.
