South Africa's Star Batter AB de Villiers Hopes BCCI Will Permit Indian Players in SA20

AB de while playing for RCB in IPLAB de Villiers the cricket star from South Africa strongly wishes the BCCI to let Indian players join the SA20 League. Villiers thinks if they could play, it would make the league significantly more popular and well-known.

Dinesh Karthik is the only Indian cricketer who's going to play in SA20 today. That's happening because he said goodbye to playing cricket both in India and on the international level last year. The BCCI won't let Indian players who are still playing actively join in on cricket leagues outside the country. If Indian players truly want to enter these overseas tournaments, their only option is to retire from cricket in India.

This trend of players retiring to explore opportunities in foreign leagues is growing, but de Villiers hopes the BCCI will reconsider its stance in the future.

"I'd love to see more Indian players getting involved. It's fantastic that Dinesh Karthik will be part of the league this year, and it's great for SA20. Hopefully, the BCCI will let more Indian players join in the fun soon," said de Villiers during a media interaction ahead of the third edition of SA20, which begins on January 9.

De Villiers thinks the best thing to make a league do very well is to bring in amazing players from all over the world. This is something the IPL has been extremely proficient at for a long time. But, he also knows that the BCCI probably won't be okay with letting Indian players who are still playing go join other country's leagues for a while.

"We can continue to grow by bringing in the best overseas players. That's been a big reason for the IPL's success since 2008. Every year, the international players in the IPL keep getting better and better. When you combine the best players from around the world with the best Indian players, it creates amazing cricket," de Villiers said.

He also encouraged SA20 commissioner Graeme Smith and his team to work hard on bringing in the best overseas talent to make the league even stronger.

De Villiers on Impact Player Rule

Villiers shared his thoughts when asked whether SA20 should have the IPL's Impact Player rule, admitting he doesn't like it much.

"I've never been a big supporter of it. I spoke about this during the last IPL season. I feel it makes things confusing and adds pressure on all-rounders in particular.

"From the outside, it might look exciting, but during the game, I don't think it's a great addition to cricket. Still, I think trying out new ideas is good, and SA20 has always been open to experimenting with new rules," de Villiers said.
