South Africa Pulls Off Thrilling 359-Run Chase to Level ODI Series Against India in Raipur

South Africa pulled off an amazing run chase, scoring 359 to win by four wickets in Raipur! This is their third-highest successful chase in ODIs. It was another high-scoring thriller, and the Proteas’ celebrations showed just how much it meant. With this win, they level the three-match series 1-1 and will head to Vizag for the decider on Saturday. Over 680 runs were scored in the series opener; South Africa fought and gave the Indian side a run for their money, but somehow, the Men in Blue held their nerve to go 1-0 up with a 17-run win on Sunday.
Tonight, over 700 runs were scored, and this time, Corbin Bosch was there to complete the unfinished business a couple of nights ago as the Proteas pulled off a lion-hearted effort to brush aside the centuries from Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Earlier in the day, India lost their 20th toss in a row in the ODIs and were asked to bat first, this time by Temba Bavuma. KL Rahul shrugged his head straightaway as he knew that dew was going to be a major factor yet again.
India relied on the stylish 100s from Gaikwad and Kohli as the two right-handers added a record-breaking 195-run third-wicket stand post early departures of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal to set a solid platform. Just like the first ODI, India's innings slightly went downhill in terms of run flow post the wickets of both the set batters in quick succession.
South Africa Pull Off Third-Highest ODI Chase to Level Series 1-1
The Men in Blue were 257/2 in 35.3 overs and slipped to 289/5 in 41 overs, with Washington Sundar failing to deliver yet again. KL Rahul then played a captain's innings. He notched up his second successive half-century in the series, adding an unbeaten 69-run sixth-wicket stand with Ravindra Jadeja, who wasn't at his best in terms of finishing as India managed to get to 358/5 in 50 overs.
Arshdeep Singh got rid of Quinton de Kock cheaply. Then Aiden Markram and Tema Bavuma stabilised the innings with a 101-run partnership. Markram kept going after Bavuma's dismissal for 46 and scored a magnificent 4th ODI ton. It was so special as he smacked 110 off 98 balls. Needless to say, Jaiswal putting down Markram at long on proved costly for India in the end.
Harshit Rana took care of Markram straight after the hundred, but the Proteas never allowed India to strike at regular intervals, although things went down to the wire towards the end. Matthew Breetzke and Dewald Brevis were brilliant and scored half-centuries in the blink of an eye.
Brevis, Breetzke and Jansen fell in the space of 4 overs to give India a sniff, and with Tony de Zorzi retiring hurt a couple of balls later, there were butterflies in the South Africans' stomachs. Bosch ensured that he sealed the deal in the final over, with a little but valuable support from Maharaj.
