Shreyas Iyer Injury Update: BCCI Likely to Announce Star Fit Post Jan 6 Vijay Hazare Trophy Appearance

India cricket team star, Mumbai batter Shreyas Iyer, has taken a step closer to making his comeback for the first time since his injury in October 2025. The Mumbai batsman has been on a long break following an injury he suffered during the IND and AUS ODI series. However, it has now been revealed that he was at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) this past week, as he is still undergoing recovery. This is now the final hurdle for a complete fitness task by the BCCI for a comeback.

Shreyas Iyer’s fitness decision after Vijay Hazare Trophy match on Jan 6

According to Reports, Shreyas has already completed one out of these two 50-over Return to Play matches simulation, conducted at BCCI’s CoE. The second simulation will take place during Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Himachal Pradesh on January 6. The report suggests that if Iyer passes the second simulation without any complications in the 50-over RTP match simulation, then a fitness clearance will be granted to him.

After suffering with a lacerated spleen with internal bleeding after a diving catch, Shreyas lost around 6 kilograms in the last 2 months. Hence, he would require time to regain this weight and reach the level of his cricketing performance before the abdominal injury.

Earlier, it was revealed that Shreyas has successfully acclimated to four skill sessions. The next task at hand for the player to receive the green light to return to cricket from the BCCI would be to perform the two-match simulations.

It remains to be seen whether Shreyas will be selected for the IND vs NZ ODIs for India, which is likely to be announced on Saturday afternoon. Although it is important how Iyer will perform in his second match simulation for RTP, it would be interesting to know whether a long rope will be given to him by the selection committee or if those who are match-ready players will be selected.
