Sanju Samson to Stay with Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2026, Ends CSK Rumours

Sanju Samson is set to stay with Rajasthan Royals for the IPL 2026 season, putting an end to all the rumours that have been floating around lately. Back in July, there were reports suggesting that Chennai Super Kings, the five-time champions, were keen on bringing the Kerala wicketkeeper-batter into their squad.

But a recent update now makes it clear that Rajasthan Royals have no intention of releasing any players, especially not their captain, Sanju.

RR Likely to Retain Sanju Samson as Captain, No Player Trades Planned

As per Times of India, a source claimed that RR have decided not to trade Samson or any of their players for now. The report quotes a source who claims that the keeper-batter is an integral part of the team setup and is the undisputed captain of the franchise.

Speculations of Samson’s potential trade came to the fore after he struggled with injuries during IPL 2025 and was replaced by Riyan Parag as the RR captain. “RR have decided not to trade Samson or any of their players for now. Samson is very much a part of the Royals’ set-up and the undisputed captain of the team,” the source said.

Samson Meets RR Official Amid CSK Rumours

Sanju Samson played only 9 matches in the last season of the tournament. He made 285 runs, with just one half-century, and had an average of 35.82.

Talks about him possibly joining CSK started gaining attention after his agent, Prashobh Sudevan, liked a social media post that hinted the 30-year-old might move to the Chennai team. But on July 16, Sanju Samson met face-to-face with Siddhartha Lahiri, who looks after international player development for Rajasthan Royals. Lahiri later shared a photo of their meeting and wrote, “Always a fun time having lunch with the skipper.”
