SA20: Sunrisers Eastern Cape Return to Their Rightful Place the Final

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) are clinched in the SA20 playoffs. Their incredible record of six consecutive wins in knockout matches has made them the team to beat. SEC has maintained their winning streak from 2023 to 2025, reaching another final after a win in the Eliminator and Qualifier 2.
They won easily on Thursday in Centurion, Johannesburg, defeating Paarl Royals by eight wickets in Qualifier 2. Now, they are set to face MI Cape Town in the grand finale at the Wanderers on Saturday.
Paarl Royals Playoff Woes Continue
SEC is leading, while the Paarl Royals are at the bottom. For the third season in a row, they made the playoffs but missed the final again.
SEC chased easily
Despite the scorching heat in Centurion, SEC made light work of their 176-run chase. The finishing touch came from captain Aiden Markram, who won with a signature cover drive, followed by a jubilant jump and air punch.
Tony de Zorzi played a fantastic innings, scoring 78 from 49 balls, while Jordan Hermann stayed not out with 69 from 48 balls. Together, they stitched a record-breaking 111-run partnership for the second wicket, the highest in SEC’s SA20 history. Markram had little to do but stay steady at the other end.

Paarl Royals started slowly, but Lhuan Dre-Pretorius scored 59 off 41 balls and Rubin Hermann scored 81 off 53 balls with a 99-run partnership for the second wicket. Andile Phehlukwayo scored a quick 22 off 11 balls, but the total of 176 was not enough against SEC’s strong batting lineup.
After their latest playoff win, SEC now focuses on MI Cape Town, their last challenge in the hunt for a second straight SA20 title. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have entered the SA20 playoffs as they head to the Wanderers for the championship clash.
