Rishi Dhawan Announces Retirement from Indian Limited-Overs Cricket

Rishi Dhawan, a 34-year-old cricketer from Himachal Pradesh, announced his retirement from limited-overs cricket right after the Vijay Hazare Trophy's group stage ended. Even though he'd previously played for India, in just three ODIs and one T20I in 2016, he only managed to play in four international games.

Dhawan has been extremely impressive this season, playing for his team. He's scored 397 runs already, with a knockout average of 79.40, and also he's taken 11 wickets with an average of 28.45, all the aforementioned in just five matches.

His team Himachal Pradesh, is doing great in the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament, currently in second place in Group B as they have the sincere intention to make a quarter-final spot.

Dhawan shared the news on social media, stating:

“It’s not easy to say goodbye, but I have no regrets as I announce my retirement from Indian limited-overs cricket. Cricket has shaped my life for the past 20 years, bringing me endless joy and unforgettable memories that I will always cherish.”

Dhawan was very grateful to the Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders, the IPL teams he played for. He also expressed his graduate to the BCCI and Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association. Reflecting on how much he has learned and grown.

“From starting with nothing to representing India on the biggest stage, it’s been an incredible privilege. Cricket has been my passion and the reason I woke up every day. I want to thank all my coaches, mentors, teammates, and support staff for helping me become the person I am today.”

Guiding Himachal Pradesh to win their very first Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2021-22 season was a major moment for his career. Dhawan really stood out when he scored 458 runs and took 17 wickets in just eight games, making him both the year's second-best in batting and bowling. It was wonderful since he managed to be in the top five for both runs and wickets during that season. Until now, that's the only domestic trophy Himachal has ever won.

Dhawan has decided to stop playing limited-overs cricket, but we will always remember the great things he did for both the Indian and Himachal cricket teams.
