Ravindra Jadeja–Sanju Samson Trade: CSK–RR Negotiations Enter Critical Stage

A trade between Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson, something that once seemed impossible in the IPL, is now a real possibility. Over the last few days, talks between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals have moved into serious negotiation.
The deal isn’t final yet, but Cricbuzz has confirmed that both teams are actively working on it. Cricbuzz first mentioned this on November 7. Both Jadeja and Samson are valued at INR 18 crore, so a straight swap could have been completed easily. But Rajasthan Royals reportedly don’t want a one-for-one deal.
They are said to be asking for an extra player from CSK, and that demand might be the reason the trade is still on hold. A couple of other franchises are also believed to have been tapped by the Royals management - Sunrisers for instance - apart from keeping their channels of communication open with the likes of Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The main sticking point in the CSK–RR trade talks is Rajasthan Royals asking for Dewald Brevis. CSK picked up the young South African halfway through last season, and since then he’s turned into one of the most exciting batters in T20 leagues around the world.
Jadeja–Samson Trade Talks Heat Up
He even got a record bid at the SA20 auction from Pretoria Capitals, with Jo’burg Super Kings (CSK’s sister team) going after him but pulling out right before the final bid.
Ravindra Jadeja has reportedly denied a trade, and Sam Curran might be in talks with RR. Otherwise, an all-cash deal could be on the cards, as Sanju Samson is keen to join CSK.
As reported by Cricbuzz over the last few days, Manoj Badale, the UK-based lead owner of Rajasthan Royals who is currently stationed in Mumbai, is heading their negotiations. However, it is learnt that Chennai Super Kings are firm in their stance - they have no intention of including another player in the transaction, let alone Brevis.
CSK feels that letting go of Jadeja, one of the best cricketers in the world right now, is already a huge sacrifice. Before starting the trade talks, the franchise even spoke to the 36-year-old all-rounder to get his views. At the moment, things are now in Rajasthan Royals’ hands.
Regarding the discussions with Sunrisers Hyderabad, it’s understood that SRH are not very keen on bringing in Sanju Samson. They already have three strong openers: Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who are one of the most dangerous pairs in the IPL, along with Ishan Kishan. Sources from the team say they don’t plan to trade Ishan or Heinrich Klaasen, despite recent rumours.
