Pakistan, captain Shan bag unwanted records after losing to Bangladesh in Mirpur Test
Among captains who have led Pakistan in more than five Test matches, Shan Masood has the worst loss percentage in the country’s history.
New lows for Shan
He has captained Pakistan in 15 Test games so far and has lost 11 of them. This works out to a loss percentage of 0.7, the joint fourth-worst among all Test captains so far who have captained their teams in more than five matches.
Pakistan's captain also now shares the record with Inzamam-ul-Haq for the second-most defeats in Pakistan’s Test history as skipper. Only Misbah-ul-Haq has more defeats as captain, with 19 losses in 56 Tests.
Pakistan equal Zimbabwe’s record
Shan recorded his eleventh loss as captain against Bangladesh in Mirpur. The defeat was Pakistan’s third against Bangladesh on the bounce, having lost 2-0 to them in Pakistan in 2024. Only Zimbabwe have lost as many consecutive Tests to Bangladesh.
With persistent rain in Sylhet, the second Test match is likely to be affected. There are some reports that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is mulling over shifting the game to Dhaka. But if that does not happen and rain devours the game, Pakistan are looking at another series defeat against Bangladesh. That would make them the first team after Zimbabwe, Ireland, and the West Indies to lose more than one Test series versus Bangladesh.
