Rassie van der Dussen Announces Retirement from International Cricket

Rassie van der Dussen has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. He played for seven and a half years. Rassie van der Dussen will continue to play domestic cricket for the Lions. He wants to contribute to the development of young players and guide the young generation too.

Rassie van der Dussen made his debut in T20 cricket in 2018 against Zimbabwe. In 2019, he played his first ODI match and scored 93 runs against Pakistan. Rassie van der Dussen scored 2657 runs in 71 matches for the ODI team. His average was 50. He scored six centuries and 17 half-centuries in his ODI career.

Rassie van der Dussen Announces Retirement from International Cricket

Rassie van der Dussen played 57 matches for the T20 team and scored 1406 runs. Rassie van der Dussen played 18 matches for the Test team and scored 905 runs. His highest individual score was 98 against England in Johannesburg.

 Rassie van der Dussen said in a statement that,

"It is with a proud heart and a profound sense of gratitude that I announce my retirement from International Cricket,

"To wear the Proteas jersey is a feat that demands a level of resilience and dedication that both tests, and rewards you in the most incredible way. To have played for my country has been the greatest honour of my life. "This journey has been paved with years of sacrifice, but the privilege of representing South Africa was worth every moment."

Rassie van der Dussen has represented South Africa in the 2019 and 2023 ODI World Cups and the 2021 T20 World Cup. His finest moment was during the 2023 World Cup, where he made an outstanding score of 133 runs against New Zealand. Rassie van der Dussen has also captained South Africa in T20 cricket, including a series against West Indies in 2024.

"Growing up in a household of four brothers - Adriaan, Nico, CE, and myself - the Proteas badge was always held as something sacred,"

 "We lived and breathed the game together, and to be the one to carry our family name onto the international stage was a responsibility I was proud to embrace. I am merely a product of my environment, and of years of camaraderie, love, and pushing for greatness. "To my wife, Lara; you have been by my side every single step of the way. You have ridden the waves of incredible highs and difficult lows with empathy, grace and strength, and you have been my biggest cheerleader, whom I could not have done this without."

Enoch Nkwe, the team director of South Africa, said Rassie’s contribution went beyond the runs he scored. He said Rassie was an influential senior player in the team who contributed to the team culture. Rassie was known for leading from the front and setting high standards for the rest.

Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki added that,

 "Rassie delivered in key moments for the team and earned the respect of his teammates, opponents and fans alike. We thank him for his service to South African cricket and wish him every success in the next phase of his journey."
