R Ashwin clarifies comments on Dewald Brevis after CSK statement

R Ashwin clarifies comments on Dewald Brevis after CSK statement

[ Poll: 0yYpVBwQ ]

Former Chennai Super Kings batter Anirudha Srikkanth has taken a dig at R Ashwin, saying the off-spinner should not have spoken openly on his YouTube channel about teammate Dewald Brevis’ contract. He felt it was something Ashwin could have avoided as an active player.

"This has come right after Ashwin, on his YouTube channel, spoke about his contract. Which I feel is, first of all, very, very wrong. Being a current player, being in the same team, talking about another player's contract - even though it might have been in a different context -this is the problem it can lead to," Anirudha said on the Cheeky Cheeka YouTube channel.

"You never talk about another person's contract, first of all. And because of that, CSK have strongly put out a statement. All the fans have been given that ease, stating: don't worry at all, for the next two years this player is only for us," he added.

Ashwin clarifies his comments on Brevis and CSK

The issue started when Ashwin said that CSK were ready to spend “extra” to bring Brevis into their team for IPL 2025. His remark raised questions about whether such a move was even allowed, which later forced the franchise to put out a clarification.

Responding to the backlash, the former India spinner clarified that his remarks were never about finances.

"My intent in the old video was to talk about Brevis' batting, not about his IPL signing amount. We have to understand that every player who plays in the IPL has a contract with the franchise and the tournament. If there is anything wrong, it won't be ratified. My point was about his batting, not money," Ashwin explained.

Ashwin’s Clarification and Anirudha’s Criticism Over Contract Talk

He also stressed that it’s important to clear up such issues quickly in today’s fast-moving media world.

"In today's time, there is a need to clarify the right things as well. No mistake has been made by the franchise, the player or the governing body," Ashwin said.

Ashwin tried to clear the air, but Anirudha’s strong words showed how delicate contract talks can be, and that it wasn’t right for him to speak about it while still being a teammate.
