Sarfaraz Khan Scores 92-Ball Century in Buchi Babu Trophy, Makes Strong Counter to Selectors
India batter Sarfaraz Khan made a big statement for a return to the national team by scoring a century on the first day of the Buchi Babu Trophy. Playing for Mumbai against TNCA XI on Monday, the 27-year-old reached his century in just 92 balls, showing great skill in tough conditions.
After Mumbai chose to bat, they found themselves at 98/3 when Sarfaraz walked in. He then put on a partnership of 72 runs with Suved Parkar. However, it wasn’t the ideal start for Mumbai captain Ayush Mhatre, who was dismissed for 17, and Musheer Khan also fell for 30.
This performance comes after Sarfaraz Khan made headlines for losing 17 kg in just two months. The Mumbaikar wasn’t picked for the IND vs ENG Tests and had something to prove. With the West Indies series approaching, a return to the national side could be on the horizon.
Sarfaraz Khan recently worked hard on his fitness, is looking to make a comeback to the Indian Test team after missing out on the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 series against England, led by Shubman Gill.

The 27-year-old Sarfaraz Khan is aiming for a return to the Indian Test team after being left out of the squad for the tour of England. Although he was picked for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, he didn’t get a chance to play any of the five matches. His last Test appearance was during New Zealand’s tour of India last year, where he started strong with a brilliant 150 in the first Test in Bengaluru, but struggled in the next four innings, managing only 21 runs as India was swept 0-3 at home.
Sarfaraz was outstanding in the IND A vs ENG A Test scoring 92 in one of the innings. However, he wasn’t included for the second A Test and was sent back home after that. In his Test career, Sarfaraz has played 6 matches scoring 371 runs at an average of 37.10.
In First-Class cricket, he has been much more dominant scoring 4685 runs in 55 matches including 16 centuries and 15 fifties at an impressive average of 66. Now, he’ll need to carry this form into the upcoming Ranji Trophy, which begins on October 15.
