PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2 Highlights: Shreyas Iyer’s Heroics Power PBKS to Final, Knock Out MI in Qualifier 2 Clash

PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2 Highlights: Shreyas Iyer’s Heroics Power PBKS to Final, Knock Out MI in Qualifier 2 ClashShreyas Iyer led from the front and steered Punjab Kings (PBKS) to a dashing five-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in a thrilling IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on June 2. With this PBKS have set up a final date with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as the title clash is slated to be held on the same venue on June 3

Shreyas Iyer played a stunning knock, scoring an unbeaten 87 to power PBKS past a tough 204-run target with one over still left. This win marks a special moment for Punjab Kings, as they’ve reached the IPL final for the first time in 10 years. For Mumbai Indians, it was yet another tough outing in Ahmedabad this was their sixth straight loss at the venue, with their only win there coming way back in 2014 against Rajasthan Royals.

As for Iyer, what a leader he’s been! He’s now taken three different teams to the IPL final Delhi Capitals in 2020, Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024 and now Punjab Kings in 2025. No other player has ever led more than one team to the final.

Chasing a big target of 204, Shreyas Iyer played a key role in taking PBKS over the line. He hammered a fiery 87 off just 41 balls hitting 8 sixes and 5 fours, and made sure the team got home with an over to spare. MI may have felt they had enough runs on the board, but Iyer’s dominant innings made their total look at least 20 runs short. Josh Inglis (38) and Nehal Wadhera (48) chipped in with handy knocks, but it was Iyer’s near solo effort that kept PBKS in control throughout. He fittingly finished the game with a six sealing the win in style. MI will be disappointed to miss out on a final spot, but on the night, PBKS clearly looked like the better side.

Suryakumar and Tilak Anchor the Middle

The pitch was expected to help the batters aabatters, and it certainly did but someone still had to make the most of it. Suryakumar Yadav (44 off 26) and Tilak Varma (44 off 29) stepped up for Mumbai Indians, keeping the scoreboard ticking in the middle overs after Jonny Bairstow’s quick start in the powerplay. Later, Naman Dhir played a handy cameo, smashing 37 off just 18 balls to help MI post a solid total.

Even though the pitch didn’t offer much to the bowlers, PBKS kept fighting. They struggled at times, but in the end, did well enough to keep things under control and give their batters a chance.

The match got off to a late start due to rain, just before the scheduled 7:30 PM IST toss. After a few rain breaks, play finally began at 9:45 PM IST with no overs lost. Despite the delay, fans in Ahmedabad got their money’s worth with a thrilling game. Now, with both PBKS and RCB reaching the final two teams that have never lifted the trophy – one of them will finally break the jinx on June 3.
