Pakistan Announces T20 World Cup 2026 Squad After Boycott U-Turn, Salman Ali Agha Named Captain

Pakistan Announces T20 World Cup 2026 Squad After Boycott U-Turn, Salman Ali Agha Named Captain

[ Poll: QLj2RlLR ]

Just a day after PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi showed support for Bangladesh following pakistan’s replacement in the T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan has now announced its squad for the tournament. Pakistan, after threatening to join Bangladesh in boycotting the tournament, has backtracked on its earlier stance and has announced its 15-member squad for T20 World Cup 2026 under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha. Keeping in view of the fact that the deadline for selecting squads for T20 World Cup 2026 is around the corner (January 31), Pakistan held a press conference at Lahore on Sunday (January 25).

There is also some good news for the Pakistani Cricket Team, as most of the big names of the Asian Cup 2025 players remained with us in this series as well. Sahibzada Farhan has again justified his place in the team by compiling most runs, i.e., 857 runs at an average of 132.25 SR, after T20 world cup 2024, and is again opening with us.

Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Usman Khan, etc. are there. Babar Azam is back in the side too, having missed the T20Is in Sri Lanka due to the Big Bash League. Babar Azam had a horrible outing in Big Bash 15 for the Sydne Sixers, scoring only 202 runs at a dismal strike rate of 103.06. Finger crossed which place he gets in the top order, which is stacked with amazing talent.

Pakistan Announce 15-Member Squad for T20 World Cup 2026 After Boycott U-Turn

At the beginning of Hesson’s time as Pakistan’s coach, he dropped Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan from the Asia Cup team. He also openly spoke about their slow approach and said they were not showing enough attacking intent while batting. While Babar has made his comeback, Rizwan has been ousted. In his last 4 T20Is for Pakistan, Rizwan made just 101 runs at a poor strike rate of 98.05. Haris Rauf also has no space in the team after it was announced that he would not feature in Pakistan’s expected team squad.

Despite doing very well in the Big Bash League for Melbourne Stars, Haris Rauf has been left out because of his poor performances in international matches. Since January 2025, he has taken 23 wickets for Pakistan but has conceded runs at a high economy rate of 9.1. His awful bowling for Pakistan in the Asia Cup Final cost them at a very high price against their arch-rivals, India.

Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 squad: Salman Ali Agha (c), Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Khawaja Mohammad Nafay (wk), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan (wk), Saim Ayub, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Usman Khan (wk) and Usman Tariq, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf.
