Padma Awards 2025: Indian Cricketer Ravi Ashwin Honored with Padma Shri, Hockey Player PR Sreejesh Receives Padma Bhushan

Former Indian star cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin and hockey legend PR Sreejesh have received one of the highest indian prestigious Padma Awards. The spinner Ravi Ashwin has been honored with the Padma Shri, while hockey goalkeeper Sreejesh has been awarded the Padma Bhushan.

The President of India Droupadi Murmu has approved 139 Padma Awards to recognize individuals for their excellent contributions in various fields, including art, literature, science, public affairs, and social work.

Five sports stars will receive these civilian awards in the sports category. They include former footballer Inivalappil Mani Vijayan, who was awarded the Padma Shri, Paralympic gold medalist Harvinder Singh awarded the Padma Shri, and well-known athletics coach Satyapal Singh awarded the Padma Shri.

Ashwin reached some great achievements in his career with his amazing all-rounder role in cricket. Ashwin was part of India's winning teams in the 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Ashwin was one of India's biggest match-winners for India.

Ravi Ashwin's International Cricket Career

Ashwin's career was excellent in the Test format where he took 537 wickets in 106 matches and he was the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Test format. He has also scored 3,503 runs with six centuries. In the ODI format, he took 156 wickets, and in the T20Is he has taken 72 wickets.

PR Sreejesh played an important role for India in winning the bronze medal two times for India. In the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, India beat Germany to win the bronze and in the 2024 Paris Olympics, India defeated Spain to secure the bronze medal. 

In the 2024 Paralympics Harvinder Singh made history by winning India's first Paralympic gold medal in archery. Inivalappil Mani Vijayan was a former captain of India's football team. Also, he was named Indian Player of the Year three times in 1993, 1997, and 1999. In 2003 Mani Vijayan was awarded by Arjuna Award. Satyapal Singh was the para-athletics coach and the head of the Target Olympic Medal Sports Academy.
