Ashwin Denies Targeting Rohit Sharma in Tweet on Leadership Qualities
Former Indian all-rounder Ravi Ashwin has come out to explain the social media tweet he posted during the fifth day of the Boxing Day Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.Ashwin announced his international retirement after the third BGT 2024-25 test match at the Gabba in Brisbane. This decision of Ashwin left the fans in shock and also raised many questions about whether he was forced to retire by the Indian management, especially by the captain Rohit Sharma or not.
The 38-year-old has since come out and said that he does not have any hard feelings or sadness about his decision and also said that he never thought about changing his decision. However, his tweet on Monday, December 30 created confusion among the fans and made them wonder if the off-spinner was aiming a jibe at Rohit Sharma.
"Good leaders emerge when they show resolve for a scrap“ Ashwin posted on X.

The timing of the tweet was important; it was tweeted during the second innings of the fifth day of MCG test after the sacking of two senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Some of the fans thought that Ashwin might have been aiming at Sharma, who has not performed well in the series and scored 31 runs in five innings. However, the Indian all-rounder has now provided a clarification of his previous post.
Ravi Ashwin reembed the previous tweet and to avoid any confusion he stated that the word ‘scrap’ meant Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fight. He also pointed out that people often take implied meanings literally on social media.
“Now a days, implied meaning can be taken out of context. I was referring to Jaiswal’s wonderful scrap today. Peace out folks," Ashwin wrote.
