Oldest Players in the IPL 2025 | MS Dhoni…
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League is now wrapping up with just the last few matches as RCB, GT, MI, and PBC reached the playoffs. It will be interesting to see whether we get a new IPL team champion this time or same team who has already lifted the trophy before. In this IPL season, we also witnessed some very old players who continued to play despite their age. And today, in this article, we will discuss a few of the top players on this list.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the five-time IPL champion and former Indian captain, continues to play the IPL 2025 even at the age of 43. Despite starting the season as a wicketkeeper batter, Dhoni was handed over the team’s captaincy mid-season as the team's captain, Rituraj Gaikwad, was injured and ruled out for the season. In this season, batting in the 11 matches, Dhoni scored 169 runs at a strike rate of 146.5. He also contributed in some crucial situations in a few matches, but his efforts ultimately went to waste as the team couldn't win the matches and finished in the last position.
Though this year, Dhoni was retained by CSK as an uncapped player for just 4 crore after changes in the IPL rules for just Dhoni, it will be interesting to see whether the team continues with him or not for the next season or not. In the 14 matches played this season, he scored 109 runs with a highest score of 30.

Faf du Plessis
The next player on the list is South African veteran batter Faf du Plessis, the second-oldest player in the season at the age of 40 years. Du Plessis, who was acquired by Delhi Capitals for 2 crore, played at multiple positions for the team. He was also the captain of RCB until last year, but this year, Delhi used him as a pure batter. Despite being a fitness freak, du Plessis faced injury issues and couldn't play in multiple matches. In the 9 matches played this season, he scored 202 runs at an average of 22.44 and a strike rate of 123.92, with two half-centuries.

Ravi Chandran Ashwin
The third oldest player of the season was Ravi Chandran Ashwin from CSK, who played at the age of 38. Chennai Super Kings, which acquired Ashwin for a whopping price of 9.75 crore, didn't even use him in all of the matches due to his inconsistent performance. Ashwin, who has already retired from international cricket, played in 8 matches this season and bowled a total of 28 overs, taking just seven wickets with an economy rate of 9.
