ODI World Cup 2027: 44 matches set for South Africa, 10 for Zimbabwe and Namibia

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has set up a local organising committee for the 2027 ODI World Cup and also confirmed the venues for the tournament. A total of eight cities in South Africa, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London and Paarl, will host 44 out of the 54 matches. The remaining 10 games will be played in Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The three African nations, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya are set to host the next edition of the men’s 50-over tournament in October and November of 2027. South Africa's history of hosting ICC men’s events includes the 2009 Champions Trophy and the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, as well as being a co-host for the 2003 Men's ODI World Cup. Furthermore, the country has also successfully hosted two Women’s World Cups: the 2005 50-over competition and the 2023 T20 World Cup, where the Proteas reached the final before losing to Australia.
CSA confirms 2027 World Cup committee, venues and host nations
Former South African finance minister Trevor Manuel has been chosen to head the local organising committee for the 2027 Cricket World Cup. Cricket South Africa (CSA) has also announced the eight cities in the country that will host matches Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London, and Paarl.
"CSA's vision is to stage a global, inspiring event which will reflects the face of South Africa — diverse, inclusive, and united," CSA chairperson Pearl Maphoshe stated.
South Africa and Zimbabwe, as hosts, are already confirmed for the tournament. Namibia, though, will have to go through the African qualifiers to secure their spot. The other teams will be decided based on the ICC ODI rankings, the top eight sides will qualify directly, while the last four places will come from global qualifiers.
The tournament will be played in two groups of seven teams each. In the group stage, every team will face all the others in their group. The top three from each group will then move on to the Super Six round. From there, the best teams will battle it out in the semi-finals, leading up to the big final where the new champions will be decided.
