Mohammad Ali extends Northamptonshire contract ahead of the Vitality Blast

Mohammad Ali extends Northamptonshire contract ahead of the Vitality BlastMohammad Ali has extended his contract with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club ahead of the Vitality Blast.

Ali to be available for entire season

Ali was initially set to play for Nottinghamshire across multiple formats in the Rothesay County Championship and the Metro Bank One Day Cup during the final two months of the 2026 English domestic season.

However, he is now expected to fly to England earlier than planned and join Trent Bridge for the Blast, which begins on May 23. The fast bowler will be available for the entire season.

“I am really pleased to get the opportunity to come to Trent Bridge earlier than expected, and I am really looking forward to the Vitality Blast,” said Ali.

“I was already really excited about the chance to come and play in England, so when I was told there was a chance to come earlier, I said yes straight away.”

Notts coaching staff await Ali

The 33-year-old pacer worked with Nottinghamshire assistant coach Paul Franks during the latter’s stint in Pakistan’s domestic competitions in the 2022-23 season. Franks was coaching Central Punjab, whom Ali represented that season.

Ali also had a solid Pakistan Super League campaign with debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen, taking 20 wickets in 12 matches. He finished as the league’s second-highest wicket-taker, two wickets behind Sufiyan Muqeem.

Peter Moores, Nottinghamshire’s head coach, said Ali was the club’s first choice when the overseas spot became available.

“When it became clear last month that we’d have to find another overseas player for this year’s Vitality Blast, Mohammad was the obvious choice.

“With his recent performances in the PSL, I’m really excited by what he can bring to our group, and Paul Franks has always spoken highly about his ability as well as his character.

“He’ll add a lot of experience and quality to our group, which is what we want from our overseas players, as we look to hit our targets in the Blast this year.”
