Nicholas Pooran Named MI New York Captain After Shock Retirement from International Cricket
Just a day after he surprised everyone by retiring from international cricket, Nicholas Pooran has been named the captain of MI New York for the new season of Major League Cricket. The 29-year-old announced on June 10 that he was stepping away from all formats of the game for the West Indies.
Nicholas Pooran was a key figure in helping MI New York win the first-ever Major League Cricket title. He played a stunning knock of 137* in the final against Seattle Orcas, guiding his team to victory. Before retiring from international cricket, the 29-year-old had represented West Indies in 61 One Day Internationals and 106 T20 Internationals.
"Our hero, our ledge, our skipper! Nicholas Pooran, the 29-year-old pocket dynamite, aka the MINY superstar, has been named the MI New York captain ahead of the 2025 season of the Major League Cricket," said the franchise in a media release.
