Mumbai Indians Chase 228 to Beat Lucknow Super Giants in High-Scoring IPL 2026 Thriller

[ Poll: dw9ddYZO ]

Mumbai Indians won the match, earning only their third victory this season and second at home. Lucknow Super Giants suffered another loss, marking their seventh defeat.

Earlier in the day, Suryakumar Yadav, leading Mumbai Indians tonight, won the toss and opted to chase. LSG had a steady start, but Josh Inglis, playing his first game of the season, fell early for 13 off 5 balls. Nicholas Pooran then walked in under pressure and turned the game on its head. He went berserk from the outset, taking on the bowlers and powering LSG to 90/1 at the end of the powerplay.

Pooran brought up his first fifty of the season in blistering fashion and eventually fell for 63 off just 21 balls, smashing 8 sixes. Mitchell Marsh also chipped in with a solid 44 off 25 balls, but both departed in quick succession. Rishabh Pant’s struggles continued as he managed just 15. Aiden Markram (31* off 25) and Himmat Singh (40* off 31) stayed till the end but couldn’t quite accelerate in the death overs, as MI pulled things back well to restrict LSG to 228/5.

In reply, Rohit Sharma came in as the impact player and, alongside Ryan Rickelton, gave MI a dream start. The pair made full use of the powerplay, racing to 71/0 after 6 overs with some aggressive stroke play. Both batters looked in sublime touch as MI dominated proceedings.

Rohit Sharma was particularly fluent, playing some delightful shots, while Rickelton continued his brilliant form at ths venue with yet another 50+ score. MI were cruising at 127/0 at the halfway mark. Mohsin Khan eventually broke the massive opening stand, dismissing Rickelton for a stunning 83 off 32 balls. Rohit Sharma looked set for a century but fell for 84 off 44 balls.

Tilak Varma couldn’t contribute much, falling for 11, while Suryakumar Yadav’s lean patch continued with a quick dismissal for 12. However, there were no further hiccups as Naman Dhir (23*) and Will Jacks (10*) calmly guided MI home. Mumbai Indians chased it down comfortably, winning by 6 wickets with 8 balls to spare, sealing an important victory.
