Multan Sultans likely to return to the PSL ahead of the upcoming season

Multan Sultans likely to return to the PSL ahead of the upcoming seasonPakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans is reportedly set to return to the league, replacing Sialkot Stallionz, which was bought by OZ Developers in an auction in January for PKR 1.85 billion, making it the second most expensive franchise in PSL history. The Stallionz owners have since reportedly sold the majority stakes to another party.

CD Ventures did not give up on Multan

That party is understood to be CD Ventures. Notably, CD Ventures were the underbidders during the Multan auction earlier, where Walee Technologies acquired the franchise and renamed it Pindiz. Since then, CD Ventures have remained active within the PSL circuit and are now expected to rename Stallionz as Multan Sultans.

The PSL had confirmed last year that two new franchises would be included this season, while existing franchisees were due to renew their contracts for the following year. However, Multan Sultans’ then-owner Ali Tareen refused to renew after a rift with the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The twists and turns in Multan’s fate

Initially, the board decided to run the Sultans in-house for the season and auction the franchise ahead of PSL 12. However, following the record sales of Sialkot Stallionz and Hyderabad Kingsmen, the board reversed its decision and invited bids for the ownership rights of Multan.

Last month, Multan was sold, but the new owners’ request to rename the franchise meant it was no longer part of the league under its previous identity.
